چکیده

Shear wave seismic-acoustic imaging incorporating laser Doppler vibrometers (LDV) has been successfully used to detect buried landmines using single tone excitation. In this paper, the use of linear frequency modulated (LFM) chirps is proposed to exploit wideband resonant behavior. This technique captures more information about complex elastic inhomogeneities while being more tolerant to noise.

Shear wave speed and dispersion measurements using crawling wave chirps.

This article demonstrates the measurement of shear wave speed and shear speed dispersion of biomaterials using a chirp signal that launches waves over a range of frequencies. A biomaterial is vibrated by two vibration sources that generate shear waves inside the medium, which is scanned by an ultrasound imaging system. Doppler processing of the acquired signal produces an image of the square of...

Does standoff material affect acoustic radiation force impulse elastography? A preclinical study of a modified elastography phantom

PURPOSE This study was conducted to determine the influence of standoff material on acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) measurements in an elasticity phantom by using two different probes. METHODS Using ARFI elastography, 10 observers measured the shear wave velocity (SWV, m/sec) in different lesions of an elasticity phantom with a convex 4C1 probe and a linear 9L4 probe. The experimental...

Theoretical Analysis of Shear Wave Interference Patterns by Means of Dynamic Acoustic Radiation Forces.

Acoustic radiation forces associated with high intensity focused ultrasound stimulate shear wave propagation allowing shear wave speed and shear viscosity estimation of tissue structures. As wave speeds are meters per second, real time displacement tracking over an extend field-of-view using ultrasound is problematic due to very high frame rate requirements. However, two spatially separated dyn...

Blood Brain Barrier Disruption by Focused Ultrasound and Microbubbles: A Numerical Study on Mechanical Effects

Introduction: Microbubbles are widely used as contrast agent in diagnostic ultrasound. Recently they have shown good potential for applications in the therapeutic field such as drug delivery to the brain. Recent studies have shown focused ultrasound in conjunction with injected micro-bubbles could temporarily disrupt blood-brain barrier and let therapeutic agents transport into...

Non-Contact Optical Ultrasound Concept for Biomedical Imaging

In this paper, we examine the potential of a fully noncontact-standoff laser-ultrasound concept to generate and measure elastic waves in order to construct internal structure and matrix images within biological tissue. We use a pulsed optical laser (Q-switched) as an excitation source that converts optical energy to ultrasonic waves within a tissue complex via photoacoustic (PA) mechanisms. Las...
